CONSTRUCTION
In order to create a strong product, all aspects of the design must be structurally sound before considering aesthetic appeal. Combining these elements with the manufacturing requirements of suitable materials, is a particularly difficult task and narrows considerably the variety of design possibilities.
Gumnut have chosen to employ most liberally the superior method of mortise and tenon joining throughout their designs (as todays’ machinery allows very fine adjustments between parts creating a very tight join). Together with suitable materials (durable timber, stainless steel fastenings, water resistant glue), Gumnut produce a product that more than satisfies in all of these areas.
The “Knuckle Joint” was developed by the previous owner and has proven to be extremely durable. It has been used on our timber chairs where the seat and back of the chair join. This superior joint provides strength and no movement within the joint.
ABOUT THE FASTENINGS Used without exception throughout our range are the 304 grade stainless steel fasteners (screws, nuts, bolts and washers) for general purpose usage where resistance to corrosion is required. For flat pack purposes there were no stainless steel ‘coach screws’ standard ‘off the shelf’ available so Gumnut had them made to their specifications. These included a greater proportion of thread with better ‘bite’. |
